Reaching the Online Generation

1.3 billion People use the Internet globally.  What you may not know is the distribution of this use.  530 million live in Asia; 383 million in Europe; 246 million in North America; 137 million in Latin America/Caribbean; 51 million in Africa; 42 million in the Middle East; and 19 million in Oceana/Australia.  (Internet World Stats)  There are 6.7 billion people on our planet.  (World PopClock)  This means that about 20% of the global population has access to the Internet, of which, about half of these people live in limited or restricted access nations where it is difficult for us to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ openly and/or effectively.  How will we reach this Online Generation?

The Internet provides varying degrees of access to many populations that are difficult to reach by traditional means.  Even in societies where the expression of one’s religious beliefs it relatively free, it is becoming more difficult to publically express ones beliefs or to share one’s faith meaningfully.

Yet, millions of people every year go to the Internet to find answers to their spiritual questions.   Who is God?' was the third most sentence googled in 2007, according to Google Zeitgeist.

I am involved in an initiative to reach the Online Generation.  Check out www.ReachingTheOnlineGeneration.com.  We will be exploring how to begin communities of faith in the online environment.  Have any ideas or experience in this area?  Let us hear from you.

Blessings!

Las Vegas, tracts, the web, and reaching the world

Between 30-50 million people come through Las Vegas every year, making second only to Mecca.  People from nearly every country in the world and almost every city and town in America come to Las Vegas in a given year.  And, we know where they are going to be because almost everybody visits the same spots (at least once).  And one of the only things that most all of them have in common is internet access.

We are taking advantage of a major evangelistic opportunity (Las Vegas) and leveraging it by using the web for follow-up, connecting people with churches, and planting churches.

While we are still planting churches in Las Vegas, we are going to record our next training for church planters and post the training series on our website.  Every tract that we hand out in Las Vegas (we are are on track to hand out 100,000-200,000 this year) has a web address stamped on the back (www.jesusinvegas.com) and will be linked to the discipleship and training videos, as well as written and video translations of the material into as many languages as we can get.  We will probably never know the total affect of the efforts, but thats ok.

Our goal is to work our way up as we build our local team of evangelists so that we can hit 1-2 million tracts a year.  It is simply a response to an opportunity, and we are trying to maximize it's effectiveness by leveraging the internet.
